State clearly the philosophy of the proposed programme:
Industrial Chemistry is the index of industrial development everywhere in the world. The frontiers of chemistry are very large, ranging from one extreme of natural products to those synthesized by man. The enormous strides made by man in the understanding, exploitation of nature and synthesis of new products all have their roots in chemistry and chemical technology. For economic sustenance and technological breakthrough, the undergraduate programme is designed to encompass an appreciation of the centrality of chemical sciences in the entire undergraduate curricula. The programme is designed to equip students for employment in virtually all types of industries. Consequently a lot emphasis is placed on practical work and industrial training during the course of the programme which may be run as a 4-year programme or a 5-year programme. The programme is also planned to arouse entrepreneurial spirits needed for self-employment and economic emancipation.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Admission Requirements and Expected Duration of the Programmes
Candidates are admitted into the degree programmes in any of the following three ways:
• The University Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME)
• Direct Entry
• Inter-University Transfer
UTME Entry Mode
The entry requirements shall be at least credit level passes in five subjects including English Language, Mathematics, to form the core subjects with credit in three other relevant science courses Biology, Chemistry, and Physics at the Senior Secondary School Certificate or its equivalent. In addition, an acceptable pass in the University Matriculation Examination (UME) into 100-level is required.
Direct Entry Mode
a. Expected duration for Direct Entry (DE) candidates with two A level passes (graded A-E) at the Advanced Level in one or more relevant subjects (Biology, Botany, Mathematics, Geography, Physics and Chemistry) may undertake the three – year degree programme into 200-level.
b. OND in relevant discipline with at least upper credit grade in addition to the five credit passes as in 1.3.2(a) above.
c. HND in relevant discipline with at least upper credit in addition to five credit passes as in 1.3.2(a) above.
Duration
Students are required to complete a minimum of 120 units for Graduation, 60 of which must come from Biochemistry.
a) UTME
Four (4) academic sessions or eight (8) semesters)
b) Direct Entry
Three academic sessions or six (6) semesters.
c) In general, no student will be allowed to exceed an additional 50% of the normal duration of the programme.
