All Bachelors honours degree student in Biotechnology are expected to develop the following abilities and skills: 1. Regime of Subject Knowledge: Cognitive abilities and skills relating to solution of problems in Biotechnology 2. Competencies and Skills: Practical skills relating to the conduct of Laboratory and Field work in Biotechnology 3. Behavioural Attitudes: General skills relating to non-subject specific competencies, communication, interpersonal, organization skills.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Admission Requirements and Expected Duration of the Programmes
Candidates are admitted into the degree programmes in any of the following three ways:
• The University Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME)
• Direct Entry
• Inter-University Transfer
UTME Entry Mode
The entry requirements shall be at least credit level passes in five subjects including English Language, Mathematics, to form the core subjects with credit in three other relevant science courses Biology, Chemistry and Physics at the Senior Secondary School Certificate or its equivalent. In addition, an acceptable pass in the University Matriculation Examination (UME) into 100-level is required.
Direct Entry Mode
a. Expected duration for Direct Entry (DE) candidates with two A level passes (graded A-E) at the Advanced Level in one or more relevant subjects (Biology, Botany, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry) may undertake the three – year degree programme into 200-level.
b. OND in relevant discipline with at least upper credit grade in addition to the five credit passes as in 1.3.2(a) above.
c. HND in relevant discipline with at least upper credit in addition to five credit passes as in 1.3.2(a) above.
Duration
Students are required to complete a minimum of 120 units for Graduation, 60 of which must come from Biochemistry.
a) UTME
Four (4) academic sessions or eight (8) semesters)
b) Direct Entry
Three academic sessions or six (6) semesters.
c) In general, no student will be allowed to exceed an additional 50% of the normal duration of the programme.
