State clearly the philosophy of the proposed programme:
The training in Data Science need to be thorough and of reliance which will assure our graduates employment opportunities or an environment whereby they could be creative innovative and seek self-employment. Graduates of Data Science and Analytics are expected to have the ability to apply knowledge and skills to solving theoretical and practical problems in Computer in relation to national and societal problems. The philosophy and mission of Data Science and Analytics discipline is to produce graduates with a critical mind, requisite ability, and skill to analyse, comprehend, predict and influence the factors that shape and mould power relationships in an ever-changing socio-political environment in a globalizing world.
Admission Requirements and Expected Duration of the Programmes
Candidates are admitted into the degree programmes in any of the following three ways:
• The University Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME)
• Direct Entry
• Inter-University Transfer
UTME Entry Mode
The entry requirements shall be at least credit level passes in five subjects including English Language, Mathematics, to form the core course with credit in three other relevant science courses Biology, Physics, Technical drawing Agricultural Science and Geography at the Senior Secondary School Certificate or its equivalent and at least a pass in Physics. In addition, an acceptable pass in the University Matriculation Examination (UME) into 100-level is required. For the B.Sc. Programme in Data Science and Analytics, candidates must have credit level passes in Mathematics, Physics and Father Mathematics. Expected duration for UME candidates shall be 4 years.
Direct Entry Mode
a. Expected duration for Direct Entry (DE) candidates with two A level passes (graded A-E) at the Advanced Level in one or more relevant subjects (Biology, Botany, Physics, Geography, Mathematics and Further Mathematics) may undertake the three – year degree programme into 200-level.
b. OND in relevant discipline with at least upper credit grade in addition to the five credit passes as in 1.3.2(a) above.
c. HND in relevant discipline with at least upper credit in addition to five credit passes as in 1.3.2(a) above.
Duration
Students are required to complete a minimum of 120 units for Graduation, 60 of which must come from Data Science and Analytics.
a) UTME
Four (4) academic sessions or eight (8) semesters)
b) Direct Entry
Three academic sessions or six (6) semesters.
c) In general, no student will be allowed to exceed an additional 50% of the normal duration of the programme.
